Sunday Mornings
(year round)
Workshop Rotation Sunday School
At 9:45 children ages 4-12 meet in our Town Hall, located on the second level of our educational wing, for music and prayer, and then go in groups to a new shop each week to learn about the day's Bible topic.
Babies through age three enjoy care and teaching in our nursery area, located on the Children's Hall.
Worship
Children are an important part of the 10:55 worship hour, where families are encouraged to sit together and help one another. On most Sundays, children have a leadership role during worship. During worship a Children's Sermon is offered. Children can come forward and hear a lesson especially for them.
Babies and children through age four are invited to remain in the nursery area for extended care during worship.
We enjoy, as a church family, the Dedication ceremonies during worship for families with newborns.
During any service of worship at Fernwood, childcare for babies through age 2 is provided by loving adults in our well-equipped nursery. Visitors are always welcome!
Wednesday Evenings
(September through May)
Children's Music and Mission are offered on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. after Family Night Supper.
Other Fun Stuff We Do
Holidays and Special Celebrations
Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Cookout takes place the week before Resurrection Sunday. On the last Sunday in October we host a big Halloween Party, fun for all ages. Occasionally children enjoy an organized outing such as skating, bowling, hiking, or swimming, supervised by adults in our congregation.
Off to Camp!
During July all children in 3rd - 6th grade spend a week at Camp PRISM (Preparing and Reaching Individuals in Spirit and Mind) with kids from 10 other Baptist churches. The camp is in the mountains near Hendersonville, NC. The week holds adventure, the outdoors, Bible study, new friends, campfires and unforgettable fun.
Vacation Bible School
During summer VBS, the church family participates in study, missions, a creative project, and meals shared together. VBS is a Baptist tradition!
Discipleship and Inquirer's Classes
Each year during Lent, the 6th graders do special study and reflection as they prepare to become young adults. Some may decide during this study to be baptized as well.
Our church leads friendly discussions in an Inquirer's Class with children who are interested in baptism and full church membership. Receiving these dear ones into fellowship is our happiest ministry with children. We welcome parent leadership in all aspects of these ministries.
